Assembly Bill 907 (AB 907) was more than a bill, it was a call for compassion. It aimed to ensure children with PANS and PANDAS could access life-saving treatment without insurance denials. Although AB 907 was vetoed, the fight continued, and the bill was reintroduced the following year as AB 2105. This effort brought together a powerful community of families, advocates, and children who refused to be ignored.

Please take a moment to watch the video, read the testimonials, and view the photos of the incredible advocates who poured their hearts into this fight. Their love, courage, and determination lit the way, and the movement continues.

We lost my father and our beloved Buddy in 2025. They both fought tirelessly for this bill and passed shortly after it went into effect. Their love and determination are forever part of its story, and legacy.✨

On December 22, 2021, my son turned sixteen. We traveled to New York for a single birthday wish, to see Spider-Man: No Way Home. A severe PANS flare left him injured and unable to remain in the theater. What should have been a moment of joy quietly slipped into heartbreak. That night, worn down and afraid for my child, I emailed my Senator and asked for help.

My son has lived with PANS since a sudden onset at age eight. Since that moment, he has faced repeated denials of medically necessary treatment and academic accommodations. When my Senator’s office sent me a legislative request form, I did what mothers do when their child is suffering. I began to learn. I spent every spare moment gathering medical research, listening to other families, and studying healthcare mandates across the country. It was a long and difficult journey, marked by late nights, setbacks, and persistence, guided by love for my child and hope for others like him.

That work became the foundation for the initial draft of AB 907, shaped by the strongest protections from states that had walked this path before us. The bill was championed by our local Assemblymember from Long Beach, whose leadership helped carry a mother’s work of heart into the legislative process.

What began as one mother’s plea slowly grew into a grassroots movement. I am profoundly proud of my children. Aidan continues to heal with courage and resilience, while Christian carried our family with a steadiness beyond his years, when he should have simply been allowed to be a child.

Today, fifteen states recognize PANS and PANDAS through healthcare mandates. I hold hope close as this work continues, guided by compassion, science, and community. Families deserve to be seen, children deserve care, and when love is met with action, healing becomes possible. If this story feels like yours, you are not alone. There is a place for you here.

Thank you to the families, clinicians, advocates, and legislators who listened, stood with us, and helped carry this work forward.
